Title Properties of molecular clouds in MHD galaxy simulations

Abstract In this work we investigate the possible effect of the magnetic field in star forming regions on galactic scales, using numerical simulations. We compare two identical models with only one difference, the one is magnetised and the other one is not. We find that there are differences in the gas distribution of the two galaxies that persist with time. The differences are more pronounced as time goes by. Also, the magnetised model forms slightly more dense gas and has a slightly higher star formation rate. In order to investigate this difference we turn to the molecular clouds and their properties. First, we identify the molecular clouds using three algorithms. We find out that the first two rely on resolution. Afterwards, we calculate the statistical properties of the clouds for both models looking for potential differences. We find that the properties are almost the same for the two models and consistent with observed molecular cloud scaling relations.
