Abstract The subject of this thesis is female migrant entrepreneurship in Athens. More specifically, the issue of immigrant women's entrepreneurial activity is examined through the example of the establishment and operation of small shops, whose owners are immigrant women and are located in the neighbourhood of Kypseli. This study aims to highlight the gender dimension of the phenomenon of migrant entrepreneurship. In particular, it seeks to study the economic activity of migrant women in a male-dominated environment and search for the motivations that lead them to join the business sector. The study also aims to investigate the profile of migrant women who own a shop in their host country as well as the resources they have, either in human or financial capital. The study of migrant women who decide to enter entrepreneurship sheds light on less visible aspects of the migration phenomenon and raises questions around the understanding of gendered approaches. These questions form a complex field where important aspects of contemporary migration emerge in the exploration of which a gender perspective is necessary. Through the qualitative methodology used, the complexity of issues such as migration, entrepreneurship and gender interaction become perceptible. Therefore, the following methodological tools serve as a starting point for such an approach. Firstly, five semi-structured interviews with female migrants from Africa, currently owning shops in Kypseli, were conducted, and secondly, field research, involving on-site recordings and observations of their economic activity, took place.
