Abstract The accretion disc around a supermassive black hole emits thermal light, which may be Thomson scattered off free electrons in the atmosphere of the disc. The polarization state of the scattered light as observed at infinity, may be altered by relativistic effects. We assume a standard geometrically thin and optically thick disc and a pure-scattering, plane-parallel atmosphere with negligible absorption. We present the polarization degree and angle, as observed at infinity, as a function of wavelength, λ, for various values of the physical parameters of AGN, i.e. the inclination angle (θ), black hole spin (a), black hole mass (M), accretion rate (˙m), and color correction factor (fcol).
