Abstract Research in recent years investigated factors that influence separation anxiety in preschool children. One factor possibly associated with separation anxiety in children of this age is parental resilience, however research is very limited. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the extent to which mental resilience of parents of preschool children is related to their children's separation anxiety. One – hundred thirty (N=130) parents participated in the survey. The Connor & Davidson Mental Resilience Scale (CD-RISK-25) and the diagnostic criteria of separation anxiety according to the American Psychiatric Association were used for data collection. Results showed that participants had a moderate to high level of resilience overall, while reporting a low level of separation anxiety symptomatology in their children. Overall, it emerged that 39.2% of the children met the criteria for separation anxiety diagnosis. The findings of the research confirmed that the overall level of mental resilience of the parents is negatively related to the overall level of separation anxiety of the children. Furthermore, it emerged that there is a statistically significant relationship between the diagnosis of separation anxiety and the quadrants of mental resilience. These results give a new direction to studies on the factors associated with separation anxiety in preschool children and suggest that parental resilience contributes to better adjustment of children to preschool education and a reduction in the occurrence of separation anxiety symptoms.
