Abstract

The present work deals with the poetic path of the poet Nanos Valaoritis. We will follow the ideas expressed in his poems from 1947, when he published his first collection of poems entitled «The Magicians Punishment» until the first decades of the 21st century. In addition, the main purpose of this work is to outline a panorama of the themes detected in his poetry. The individual themes return to the poetry collections at an unsuspecting time and together co-shape the poet's thought, which evolves over time, so that not only a repetition of an idea is observed, but each time something new is added to the previous formulation. The topics of this work are the following: the phase of Valaoritis influenced by George Seferis, the relationship that human develops with society, the transition from the inadequacy of the language system to the mechanistic approach, the quests around existence, the comments about poetry, the element of love, the historical contexts found in Valaoritis's poetry, his view of the nation, the questioning of modernity and consequently the gradual decline of values that accompanies modern people.
