Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to create and evaluate digital educational material for the subject of Computer Programming of the 3rd class of Informatics of the Vocational School. Specifically, the creation of digital material for chapter 5.1 of the coursebook, referring to one of the classical Python algorithms, the binary search algorithm. As for the evaluation of the digital material, the purpose is to investigate whether this material is in line with the educational objectives set by the Institute of Educational Policy of the Ministry of Education of Greece for this subject, whether this educational material is effective in learning the binary search algorithm, and whether it can operate autonomously without the physical presence of the teacher. After a short reference to the concept of Distance Learning, its historical evolution and its presence in our country, the analysis of the concept of digital material as well as the characteristics it has to have in Distance Education is following. The algorithm and search algorithms are then described, while the next chapter describes basic Python functions and commands, and how binary search algorithm is translated in Python. The following chapters are a description of the methodology used for the creation of the training material and then followes the evaluation of the material and the conclusions of the research.
