Abstract Pre-Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (pre-SLE) encompasses a broad range of presentations, spanning from asymptomatic individuals with immunological abnormalities to individuals with autoantibodies and some features suggestive of SLE who do not yet meet the classification criteria. Research on this topic could reveal predictive or diagnostic biomarkers for individuals “at high” risk for progression to SLE. Herein, we present the results of an ongoing prospective pre-SLE cohort of the Rheumatology Clinic at the University Hospital in Heraklion Crete. The environmental, serological and clinical characteristics of incomplete lupus erythematosus (ILE) patients are outlined. The primary goal of the study is to identify “at risk” individuals for SLE transition and characterize biomarkers of early disease. This will allow for close monitoring and implementation of early interventions to delay disease onset and organ inflammation/ damage.
