Abstract Research has highlighted both the benefits and the difficulties associated with the use of digital devices by preschool children. It has been argued that the conditions under which this use is made, can negatively affect their development and specifically in the behavioral domain. The purpose of this cross-sectional, correlational study is to investigate the relationship between the use of electronic devices by preschool children and the emergence of externalizing and internalizing behavior problems. In particular, it was examined whether the time spent using electronic devices, the content of this activity and the supervision exercised by the parents during it, are related to any behavioral problems of the children. The sample of the research consisted of 95 children attending kindergartens in Rethymnon. The children's parents completed a questionnaire, which provided information on the use of electronic devices at home, and their kindergarten teachers completed the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, which assessed their behavior, at school. The results of the research showed that children exceeded the time recommended by the medical community to engage with electronic devices. The content of their engagement was mainly recreational rather than educational, and parental supervision was moderate and combined the use of limits and rules with active participation during the children's activity. Also, it was found that a large percentage of the children presented increased behavior problems, both externalizing and internalizing. However, no correlation was found between parameters of the use of electronic devices and children's behavior problems. It would be important to conduct longitudinal research, based on a larger sample, more specialized tools to more safely investigate the above associations.
