Abstract Several autism syndromes are the result of abnormal regulation of the expression of specific proteins in cells. Methyl cytosine binding protein 2 (MECP2) is a protein involved in cortical circuit homeostasis in the brain. Duplication of the gene that encodes MECP2, results in MECP2 duplication syndrome. In many syndromes of autism sensory perception is altered, including sensory perception in MECP2 duplication syndrome. This thesis explores the role of MECP2 duplication in contrast perception and contrast response functions of pyramidal neurons in V1 area. Using an animal model of MECP2 duplication syndrome (MECP2 Tg1 mice), we investigated the contrast response functions of V1 pyramidal neurons in MECP2 Tg1 mice and littermate controls in late stages of the disease. In addition, we established a behavioural paradigm for training mice, and we acquired the preliminary data of Visually evoked potential (VEP) recordings in V1 after learning in WT mice
