Abstract	In the Information Society it is important that applications and services are accessible by people with different needs and requirements, including people with disabilities. Existing technological solutions offer alternative access to information systems by persons with visual disabilities, using tactile systems (Braille) for information exchange. Therefore, it is important that visually disabled users are supported in learning Braille. This project aims at the development of an educational application for learning the Greek Braille system with the support of a personal computer. This application is designed mainly for young people with visual disabilities and can be used as an introductory or supplementary tool. For the development of the system’s user interface, modern techniques of Human-Computer Interaction have been used and design guidelines for non-visual interfaces have been adopted. The system supports a multimodal interface (visual, audio and tactile), so that it can be adapted to the user’s special characteristics. This educational tool assists the user to learn Greek Braille in an efficient and effective way, and thus it maximizes the user’s ability to interact and exchange information with his/her environment.
