Abstract	Διατμηματικό, συνεργαζόμενα Τμήματα Χημείας του Πανεπιστημίου Κρήτης και Χημείας του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλονίκης. The current thesis describes the reactions of 4-hydroxy-coumarin with aldeydes having a coumarin- or chromone-type skeleton as well as with heterocyclic systems (theiophene and furane). The reactions of 4-hydroxy-coumarin with oximes, hydrazones, amidoximes and quinoid compounds were also studied. The selection of these compounds was based on bibliographical data and was done with the aim to synthesize some new biologically active compounds.
