Abstract |
A large body of research aims to investigate the crucial role of subjective well-being
in mental and physical health, testing for the mediating effects of intrapersonal,
interpersonal as well as cultural variables. The current study attempted to extend
previous findings regarding the influence of cultural values on emotion regulation,
expression, and well-being by examining concurrent trait and non-trait factors.
Participants (N = 216) completed a series of measures including Self Construal Scale
(SCS), Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS), Subjective Well-Being
Scale (SWBS), a Brief Version of the Fear of Negative Evaluation Scale (BFNES),
Ambivalence over Emotional Expression Questionnaire (AEQ), Emotion Regulation
Questionnaire (ERQ) and the Rochester Interaction Record (RIR). Findings from
multiple regression analyses revealed that social anxiety, ambivalence as well as
emotional intelligence factors modify significantly the recorded levels of positive and
negative affect along with the reported levels of subjective well-being. Significance
and implications of the presented results are discussed under the light of intrapersonal
and interpersonal interactions.
