Abstract Adult vaccination programs are important, specially in adults who have comorbidities in order to prevent serious infections such as influenza and invasive pneumonococcal disease, but such programs are difficult to implened in Greece. Many studies have shown that vaccination coverage rates are lower in adults than children. In order to identify the weaknesses of adult vaccination, it is important, firstly, to determine the vaccination coverage. The study population includes adults over 50 years old, who live in the villages of the rural clinic of Akoumia. From June to September 2018 we examined patients that have been asked to complete a questionnaire that had been prepared according to the national program for vaccination for adults 2018. For analysis and frequency of vaccination coverage according to varius demographic charasteristics we used the Pearson’s x2 test. The analysis was performed with Excel 365 (p.value<0.05). Totally, we collected 373 questionnaires (69,6% of total population) from adults over 50 years old. A high vaccination coverage rate was observed for the seasonal flu (48,8%, n=171) in contrast with the rest vaccines. More specifically, vaccination coverage rates were: for tetanus 10,2% (n=38), for S.pneumoniae (with PPSV23 and PCV13) 21,2% (n=79), for Herpes Zoster 8% (n=30), for Hepatitis B 0,3% (n=1) and for the rest (Hepatitis A, N.meningitidis and H.influenzae tybe b) was 0%. In addition, it was found that the vaccination coverage of women for the seasonal flu was higher than men. On the other hand, for tetanus men had higher vaccination rates than women. At the end, according to the results of the present study the low vaccination rates were due to ignorance of people and doctors. The instant results show the way to raise the vaccination coverage by trying to inform the health care workers as well as general population for the benefits of vaccination.
