Abstract The aim of this dissertation was to examine the introduction of supplementary school distance learning to primary school students within the wider context of the Geography module. This investigation followed a three-stage process: a. planning, b. actualisation and c. evaluation of this teaching (and therefore learning) method based on the outcomes and research findings. Prior to applying the distance learning method and making it accessible to students, the traditional hard copy curriculum was converted into a soft copy multiform teaching material. The curriculum was primarily designed with the use of H5P, an online open-source software, and was later uploaded on the e-learning platform ‘Chamilo’ to receive its final form. For the curriculum conversion, the following factors were taken into account: a. the distance learning methodology b. the multimedia and multiform learning methodology c. contemporary learning theories, and d. the basic premise, the purpose, and teaching aims as stated in the Interdisciplinary Common Curriculum Framework and the Geology – Geography Curriculum of the Institute of Educational Policy (former Pedagogical Institute of Greece). To conduct this research, qualitative research methods were employed such as: a. open-ended research questions (addressed to students) b. open-ended research questions (addressed to evaluators/educators) c. partial participation and observation by the researcher The purpose of this investigation was to answer the following research questions: a. Is the curriculum designed based on the distance and the multimedia learning methodology? b. According to the learning outcomes, does supplementary distance learning contribute to a better understanding of concepts described in the module? and if so, in what way? c. According to the students’ opinion, does supplementary distance learning contribute to a greater level of awareness of concepts described in the module? and if so, in what way? d. According to the evaluators/educators, does supplementary distance learning facilitate the comprehension of concepts described in the module? and if so, in what way? Based on the responses of both the evaluators/educators and the students, the students’ learning outcomes, and the observations of the researcher, the following conclusions were drawn: a. the curriculum is in compliance with the requirements and specifications of the distance and multimedia learning methodology as well as the contemporary learning theories, and b. the use of an online multiform curriculum in conjunction with the traditional in-class teaching method could encourage a further understanding of the module under discussion in this dissertation.
