Abstract |
Parental burnout is a three-dimensional syndrome resulting from chronic stress.
Emotional exhaustion, emotional distance and the lack of sense of self-efficacy in the
parental role are the three dimensions that characterize it. In recent years, some
research has focused on the study of prognostic factors of parental burnout, such as
specific characteristics of children (diseases, behavioral and emotional problems) and
parents (personality traits, socio-demographics). This study has two aims: on the one
hand to investigate and compare the levels of parental burnout of parents of children
aged 6-12 years with and without emotional (or) and behavioral problems, and on the
other hand to investigate factors that differentiate the levels of parental burnout of
parents of children aged 6-12 years with and without emotional (or) and behavioral
problems. The sample consists of 70 parents (50 mothers and 20 fathers) aged 25 to
65.

seems that their personality is a predictor of parental exhaustion: the more
dysfunctional the personality traits are, the higher levels of exhaustion they score.
