Abstract |
Aim: The aim of the study is to identify the determinants of the posttraumatic growth and the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) in patients with well differentiated thyroid cancer subjected to radioiodine therapy and their interrelation. More specifically this research records the prevalence of posttraumatic growth, assess the Health -Related Quality of Life and identifies their association with patient’s clinical and demographic factors.
Patients-Methods: In order to achieve these targets a cross sectional study took place in Therapy Unit of Nuclear Medicine Department in University Hospital of Heraklion Crete, from February 2020 to June 2020. The sample of the study was consisted of 60 patients who have undergone thyroidectomy and with histological diagnosis of well differentiated thyroid cancer. Two scales were administrated to the patients Post- traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) and SF-36 Questionnaire, on the first day of their hospitalization before I-131 treatment.
Results: The findings of this study suggested that 21 patients (35%) experienced low levels and 39 patients (65%) experienced high levels of post-traumatic growth. Moreover, post-traumatic growth level was unrelated to both demographics (age, sex, family status, education) and clinical factors (TNM stage, RAI dose, RAI preparation, comorbidities, BMI, Time from Surgery) were found to be unrelated. HRQoL and especially two scales Social Functioning and Mental Health were found to be related with sex. Al the others demographics and clinical factors were unrelated with HRQoL. It has to be noticed that from the demographic’s factors, the age seems to influence positive Present Health Status compare to HS one year ago. Moreover, Role Emotional seems to be influenced by Time from Surgery, Mental Health was statistically related with Tg level and General Health with TNM stage. Mental Health and Social Functioning seems to be influenced by Post-Traumatic Growth.
