Abstract |
The continues use of fossil fuels leads to their inevitable depletion and their use
results in products harmful to the environment. Therefore, the development of
new technologies for energy production is a major issue for society. As an
alternative energy source, solar radiation can be used as it is abundant and
does not produce waste during its converted to other forms of energy. This
conversion is done through solar cells, but the commercial available ones cost
of manufacture is quite high. Third-generation solar cells are manufactured with
mild chemical processes, reducing not only their costs but also the time
manufacturing. The most promising class of third-generation cells are
perovskite solar cells. The main disadvantage of these cells is their short life
span.
The present thesis deals with the synthesis and characterization of porphyrin
derivatives in order to introduce them into perovskite solar cells at two different
layers of the cell. Two of the porphyrin derivatives were studied as intermediate
layers between the electron transport layer (ETL) and the perovskite, improving
the performance and lifetime of the device. In addition, porphyrins with different
metal centers were synthesized and characterized, which are to be coated as
an interlayer at the ETL / perovskite interface. Finally, the third family of
compounds described in this thesis consists of porphyrins with known electron
donor groups, which will be deposited as a hole transfer layer in these solar
devices.
