Abstract |
The immune system is a protection mechanism that is designed to offer protection against bacteria, microbes, viruses, toxins and parasites that could invade the organism. In this way, the immune system helps the organism to maintain its function and integrity. The mechanism and function of the immune system are still not completely understoond and there are many unanswered questions for the immunologists. In the present work, we are studying the mechanisms of tolerance and autoimmunity in a double transgenic model in mice ( F5PNP31). These mice have T lymphocytes that in their majority express the F5 receptor. Besides the F5 receptor these mice also express the NP peptide that this receptor is specific for. In the first part of this work, we are studying the in vivo proliferation of T cells generated from F5PNP31RAG-/- mice under the influence of superantigens. In the second part of this study, we are looking into the mechanisms of function of T lymphocytes from F5PNP31 and F5PNP31TNF-/- mice. We are interested in the phenotypical analysis of these transgenic mice.
