Title Μελέτη της μεταβολής του σχήματος των χόνδρων με το CO2 laser και η συμβολή της στην αποκατάσταση των χόνδρων της μύτης. Πειραματικά και κλινικά δεδομένα
Alternative Title Shaping of nasal septal cartilage with the CO2 laser experimental data and clinical applications
Creator Volitakis, Miltiadis E
Abstract Laser thermochondroplasty is a new method for changing the cartilage shape. Using a CO2 laser cartilage samples 1-3mm thic, taken from rabbit ears and from patients who underwent septal surgeries, were irradiated with CO2 laser. All samples were remoulted. An explanation of the mechanism responsible for this phenomenon is presented based on historical observation with light and electron microscopy. Irradiated rabbit cartilage samples were then implanted in the rabbit's back and they were retrieved after six months. The histological study showed a viable shaped cartilage. Clinical studies were conducted on 7 patients suffering from severe deformities of the cartilagenous septum. The deformed septal cartilage was removed, straightened up with the CO2 laser irradiation and then it was put back in place. All patients were evaluated for up to a year the treated cartilages retained their shape as well as their integrity.
