Title Εκπαίδευση χρηστών μέσω παιχνιδοποίησης

Abstract The greek academic Libraries get constantly improved and become both information centres and meeting points for the student community. In this context the mission of Reference Department is gradually emerging. Its crucial duty is to give information literacy courses that aim to facilitate the learning process of seeking information resources in an interactive way via multimedia and new technologies. The traditional teaching is enriched thanks to the variety of educational applications based on online distance learning and attach importance to student centered learning. Action bound is a free (where applicable) app of Augmented Reality. It is installed (by the players) on smart wireless devices and is activated by scanning a QR code in order to take a live or virtual guided tour in an indoor or outdoor environment via active participation in tasks. Thanks to gamification the participants interact in a recreational way obeying rules and playing roles both in an individual or team level. As far as my master thesis is concerned, thirty one persons participated virtually (in Oct. 2020) in an Actionbound guided walk in the Library. After the app downloading on the mobile device, the 1st year students of the University of Crete at Heraklion scan the QR code. They are asked to locate a book through various tasks. They interact with Library photographs, search clues via the Library website. They solve a challenging riddle so as to spot a journal. They are wandering via a digital photo map and express their feelings about the Library tour by uploading a video. Every time the players have the right answer they are complimented, whereas when their answer is wrong , they have got a 2nd chance to find the correct answer (with extra feedback). As a result, the learning process takes place everywhere and whenever in a playful way.
