Abstract The aim to this thesis is the Time-Frequency analysis of the acoustic signal and the use of dispersion curves for the detection of the normal modes and the correspondent wavelet packets of the signal’s propagation. The study of the signal is made with respect to some criterion that are important to avoid technical errors. These methods allow us to analyze some created examples which have been produced by Gaussian sources in several types of waveguides and we can extract information for their properties. These applications have major role in acoustic tomography, which is a crucial part of acoustic oceanography and not only there. For the Time-Frequency analysis we use the short-time Fourier Transform and then we study the properties of these signals with Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) in some cases of different Signal to Noise Ratio.
