Abstract |
Ever since the discovery of graphene, two-dimensional (2D) materials such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have attracted significant attention due to their intriguing material characteristics suitable for variety of applications.
In this thesis we study WS2, which belongs to the 2D TMDs family. WS2 is interesting for various applications in optoelectronics, biology, electrochemical and photochemical processes and tribology. The important thing is all such properties differ from the bulk to nanoparticle, thin film and monolayer. This is the reason why the deposition of nanoparticles, thin films and monolayers is important.
A suitable method of deposition of thin films with many advantages in comparison with other methods is the pulsed laser deposition (PLD).The aim of this thesis is the study and characterization of WS2 nanoparticles and thin layers deposited using this technique. For the characterization of our samples we use the Raman Spectroscopy, the transition electron Microscopy (TEM) and the Scanning electron Microscopy (SEM). It is observed that the distribution of nanoparticles and the formation of WS2 flakes varies upon changing specific experimental parameters, such as the number of pulses, the fluence and the temperature of the substrate.
