Abstract	Phenotypic plasticity is present within teleosts regarding their continuously changing environment. Both external morphology and skeletal elements are subjected to extended plastic responces. Increased mechanical loads can evoke skeletal changes. Swimming exercise can induce mechanical strain on those elements. If we take into account the significant effect of exercise on body shape, exercise can be viewed as a challenging factor to induce plastic responses. Aim of the present study is to test the effect of swimming exercise on body shape and the vertebral column of zebrafish larvae, subjected to three different swimming velocities (5,0, 6,5 ή 8,0 TL·s-1).
