Abstract Introduction: Nowadays entertainment is an integral part of everyday life. This seems to affect teens and children even in early childhood. The purpose of this study was to investigate the use of screen-based entertainment methods, attitudes, perceptions, and knowledge of the effects of parenting on their preschool children. Specific objectives were the appreciation of the degree of the children’s using screens (as depicted by their parents’) and the investigation of the parents’ knowledge of the consequences of the use of screens by their children. Methodology: A mixed methodology study was conducted which consisted of both questionnaires and focus groups. In the quantitative part of the research a total of 300 parents participated, with place of residence the township of Heraklion (urban and rural areas) who responded to the on-screen addiction rating questionnaire. The questionnaire-test PCIAT (Parent Child Internet Addiction) is freely available in Greek language on the website Safer Internet 4 kids as well as on the international website Child Mind Institute, healthy brain network from which it was created. In addition, 10 parents participated in the qualitative study conducted in two focus groups of 5 individuals. The one was held live in an agreed place and the other one online though the application zoom. The criterion for participation in the research was the person be a parent of a preschool child (aged 4-6). Results: The results showed that the degree of screen addiction in preschool children at present is at a moderate to low level. The main characteristics of the family that increase the risk of children being exposed to screens are educational level (βadjusted = -1.15, p-value <0.001), mean monthly income (βadjusted = -0.32, p-value = 0.01) and age. of parents (βadjusted = 1.12, p-value <0.001). Parents, despite being aware of the disadvantages and expressing their concerns about the issue, the majority do not seek help to improve the situation. Conclusions: The findings, despite the low rate of use of screens, highlight the seriousness of the issue as a Public Health problem. Parents, although aware of the severity of the problem, do not look for any help.
