Abstract |
The unexpected spread of the Covid-19 pandemic has created many limitations in the daily lives of humanity around the world. In order to protect against the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), governments around the world have taken measures such as incarceration, masking, teleworking and Distance Education (DE). Teachers, parents and students found it difficult to implement Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT). The present study aimed to investigate the beliefs, attitudes, perceptions, of Primary school teachers about Distance Education and how they are influenced by beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions about the use of computers. The sample consists of Primary school teachers (N = 131) of general education, special education and parallel support. The sampling method was the deliberate choice and specifically the snowball sampling. The questionnaire consists of the scale of "Distance Education Attitude during the Covid-19 crisis” (DEAS) and the “Greek Computer Attitudes Scale” (GCAS). According to the results of the present study, teachers seem to adopt neutral attitude about the DE. The average score from the subscale which count the perceived effectiveness of DE was Μean=0,25 and SD=0,46. The average score from the subscale which count the perceived difficulties in the DE was Mean=2,53 and SD=0,53. In addition, there is a statistically significant relationship between teachers’ perceptions about the effectiveness of DE (r (131) = 0.31, P- value <0.01) and perceived difficulties about DE (r (131) = 0.59 with P-value <0.01.), from the beliefs, skills (level of computer knowledge), experiences that they have about the computers use. In conclusion, there is need for teachers to develop digital skills with teacher training programs about the use of technological tools and the application of DE programs. The knowledge acquired during the ERT period could become the starting point for the development of education, by integrating technological tools more actively in the educational process.
