Abstract |
Nomography is a branch of Applied Mathematics and related to graphical solution of mathematical expressions and formulas. In the first chapter, we give the definition and a brief
history of nomography. As Philbert Maurice D’ Ocagné was studying geometrical anamorphosis
defined by Léon Lalanne, he introduced nomography as a different branch of mathematics. In the second chapter, we study nomograms of the power of a number and of number operations, such as linear combination and multiplication of two or more numbers, and examine the way we apply
them at Euclidian Geometry (Pythagorean Theorem and area of a triangle given two sides and
included angle). In the third chapter, we study nomograms that provide the solutions of equations of first to fifth degree and a method providing the solution of an equation of any degree. In the fourth chapter, we describe nomograms connected with the solution of trigonometrical equations which we applied the equation of Kepler. In the fifth chapter, we describe nomograms connected with the solution of plane and spherical triangles which are applied at astronomy and navigation. In
the next chapter, we list a number of different formulas used at sciences as simultaneous equations. In the last chapter, a brief reference to stereo nomograms of the above formulas is made. Finally, there is an appendix of examples of the described nomograms.
