Abstract Background: HPV or Human Papilloma Virus is known to be responsible for cervical cancer. Cervical cancer seems to affect a large portion of population worldwide. The protection of public from HPV infection, as well as the prevention from cervical cancer is the main goal of specialists to protect their patients by creating preventing programs. Aim: The main purpose of this study is to outline the needs of Crete as a region and to identify the incidence of cervical cancer in Crete as well. Those two are necessary in order to create a strategy to eliminate HPV infection and decrease cervical cancer incidence in Crete. Methods and tools: The present study followed the approach of mixed methodology, through the combination of systematic review – data collection and analysis of the Cancer Recording Center of Crete. The results of the study could be divided in three main sections. The first one concerns the detection of possible risk factors and high-risk HPV population groups. The second estimates the screening and diagnostic procedures, whilst the third one gathers up the most effective intervention strategies for HPV infection prevention. Lastly, researchers come up with a strategy plan, which is about primary prevention in order to reduce HPV infection and cervical cancer rates. The plan has been organized according to Crete population and their needs. Results: Systematic review of literature includes 14 studies, which estimate risk factors of HPV worldwide. Also, we reviewed strategy programs for public health about HPV risk factors reduction. Furthermore, we included the methods of prognostic and diagnostic screening about HPV infection. Last but not least, according to data extraction from Cervical Cancer Center of Crete, we were able to estimate the risk factors for certain regions of Crete and focus our strategy onto them.According to literature review, population of Crete has more need for a preventative strategy for older people in order to prevent HPV infection. Furthermore, education level and income are also strong risk factors. Also, there are those difficulties in the access of health services that put population of Crete into a weak spot for high rates of cervical cancer. This review has been considered these factors as well as created a prevention program. Conclusion: The strategy that has been planned includes the risk factors, which are associated with cervical cancer in Crete. Researchers estimate that risk factor reduction, like low educational level, limited access in health services and low income, would lead to reduction of cervical cancer rates in the region of Crete.
