Abstract Introduction: Social capital plays a crucial role in shaping relationships between individuals and groups, acting as the connective tissue that binds them together. Incivility behavior, characterized by low-intensity deviant actions aimed at causing harm and violating the rules of mutual respect, has not been extensively studied in the nursing workplace, despite its potential impacts on individuals and groups. Purpose and Objectives: This research aims to examine the correlation between work social capital and incivility behaviors among nursing staff. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted in February 2023 at the General Hospital of Heraklion "Venizelio - Pananeio." The study population included nursing staff at all levels of education. A convenience sample of 157 participants was selected. Data collection involved the use of two scales, namely the 'Social Capital Questionnaire - work subscale' (range 5-20) and the 'Workplace Incivility' scale (range 1-7). Additionally, socio-demographic and work characteristic information was collected. Multivariate correlations were performed using SPSS v. 28. Results: The assessment of social capital yielded a mean score of 13.3 with a standard deviation of 2.6. Regarding incivility behaviors, the mean value was found to be 2.38 with a standard deviation of 1.14. Multivariate analyses revealed a negative correlation between incivility behaviors and social capital, indicating that higher levels of social capital at work are associated with a decrease in the occurrence of incivility behaviors. Conclusions: This study sheds light on the relationship between incivility behaviors and social capital in the nursing workplace. It emphasizes the importance of considering both the work social environment and the behaviors exhibited among colleagues when implementing interventions aimed at improving the work environment in clinical contexts.
