Abstract In our work, we performed spectroscopic studies of Rubidium atoms, motivated by the need for stabilized light which cold atoms have for magneto-optical traps (MOT). First, we built saturated absorption spectroscopy for Rubidium D2 transitions at 780 nm. Then, we implemented frequency modulation using a lock-in amplifier, which detected a signal at the modulated frequency and produced an error signal that can be used to correct small changes in the laser frequency. Finally, we introduced a novel way of double subtraction of the background. By this, we achieved to have a signal that does not depend on the offset magnetic field and an error signal much more stable in possible environmental changes.
