Abstract Emotional and behavioral disorders affect a wide range of students with a variety of characteristics and effects for each child. The role of early intervention is crucial in limiting these effects and ensuring favorable conditions for the child's developmental course. These interventions should focus on the child as well as on its family and school environment. The purpose of the present study is to examine the effectiveness of the intervention program “The Circle of Friends” in students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders in relate to the reduction of the externalizing behavior problems, internalizing problems, the intense attention deficits and the hyperactivity behaviors, as well as the enhancement of their self-esteem level. An AB single subject design was used which included a baseline phase (phase A) and a treatment phase (phase B). The participants were twenty one school-age students, nine and eleven years old. The Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale which completed by the students and a Behavior Evaluation Form based on Achenbach Questionnaire were used in order to record and evaluate participants’ target behaviors. For each participant was conducted independent recording of the target behaviors by parents and teachers during both phases in order to have reliable results. The data from these two phases were compared and any behavior changes were identified. The results showed that the intervention reduced the disruptive behaviors of all participants-students and enhanced significantly their self-esteem level. Furthermore, factors which reinforced this positive effect of Social Stories were reported.
