Abstract

In this paper we collected and edited the geographical data of four species of Greek snakes (Telescopus fallax, Natrix natrix, Natrix tessellata and Malpolon insignitus) in order to produce maps of their geographical distribution in the present, and Species Distribution Models (SDMs) about their potential distributions in the present and the future. Distribution maps are part of a broader effort to create a new Atlas of Greek reptiles and amphibians. This Atlas will be gradually enriched by other papers and will be online. For the research we used data from three different sources, namely the collections of the Natural History Museum of Crete, the data from the monitoring program (2014-2015) of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, and bibliographical data from published papers. The data edited and graphically visualized by GIS programs in order to ultimately produce the distributions. The distributions were then correlated with ecological factors to produce SDMs for the present. The SDMs were projected in the future according to Climate Change forecasts data in order to examine the possible impacts on the distributions.
