Abstract The increase in life expectancy of the world population has created significant healthcare needs for the elderly and the patients. As a result, the available human resources are not sufficient to meet them. Nowadays, as the technology of robotics and artificial intelligence is rapidly developing, the solution to the matter rests on creating care robots- robots that are used as caregivers. This new technological development raises ethical concerns about their use and interaction with humans. In this paper, we will try to examine the subject of human-robot interaction as presented in the existing literature and approach it from an ethical point of view based on the moral theory of the philosopher Immanuel Kant. This ethical theory was chosen because it is a traditional ethical theory with solid foundations and its central concepts, like dignity, respect for the personhood and moral emotions, are directly relevant to the present issue. The conclusion of the present analysis is that care in health care system is about the relationship between persons and the use of care robots can have an exclusively supportive/helpful role for caregivers and cared-for persons.
