Abstract The present study investigates (a) if parental (maternal and paternal) acceptance-rejection during childhood leads to psychological maladjustment during adult life and (b) if rejection sensitivity mediates the relationship between parental (maternal and paternal) rejection and psychological well-being. The sample was consisted of 729 students (18-25 years old). The data collection was made with self-report questionnaires measuring remembered paternal and maternal acceptance-rejection, rejection sensitivity and psychological well-being. The indirect (mediation) effect was examined using the PROCESS program. Results showed that paternal and maternal acceptance is positive related to psychological well-being, so the more accepted children were perceived to be by their fathers and mothers, the better adjusted psychologically mentioned to be during young adulthood. Furthermore, it was also found that rejection sensitivity mediated partly the relationship between both remembered paternal and maternal rejection and psychological well-being. That means, parental (maternal and paternal) acceptance increases psychological well- being via rejection’s sensitivity decrease.
