Abstract The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the stress of school performance, the role of parents, mood and the school performance of students in the fourth, fifth and sixth grades of primary school. According to Maridaki- Kassotaki (2009), there are four types of parental behavior: the supportive, the tight, the authoritarian and permissive type. A number of studies has been conducted on the effect of the types of parental behavior on the cognitive, social and emotional development of children. However, there is a research gap on whether the type of parental behavior and school performance stress affect primary school students’ actual school performance and their mood. Eighty three parents (57 mothers and 26 fathers) and 83 students in the fourth, fifth and sixth class of primary school participated in our study. Parents were asked to complete the "Greek Father Typology" questionnaire (Maridaki- Kassotaki,2009); students completed the "EIME" questionnaire (Kalantzi-Αzizi & Karadimas, 1997) and the PANAS (Watson , Clark & Tellegen, 1988) to estimate their stress and mood. Finally, students’ teachers completed a rating scale of their respective actual school performance. According to the results, the permissive parental type associated with poor school performance of students, while the authoritarian parental type with their negative mood. Stress school performance was negatively related to actual school performance and their mood. Finally, parental education level was associated with their offspring’s actual school performance.
