Abstract

Scattering of light, is an inherent consequence of the propagation of light through optical media with local variations in refractive index. In the eye, the light propagates through different optical media, from the tear film, to the layers of the retina. Intraocular scattering is an important factor affecting the optical performance. The simultaneous presence of both scattering and aberrations may affect in different ways the image of the retina and vision. The purpose of the work is the initial evaluation of an experimental prototype, for the rapid measurement of intraocular scattering, using the method of optical integration. The ability of the system to differentiate scattering between already calibrated scattering lenses, is being checked. The principle is verified, but there are practical improvements in order to achieve better results and the system can be used in future clinical applications.
