Abstract RNA silencing is a conserved mechanism found in most eukaryotes. It is triggered by the presence of double stranded RNA molecules which guide the suppression of complementary sequences. It acts either at the transcriptional level or at the post-transcriptional level. The last years the use of RNAi is suggested as a novel strategy for insect pest-control, via silencing biologically important insects’ genes. The main methods investigated for the delivery of dsRNA are either by spraying directly to the plants or by construction of transgenic plants which express dsRNA. At this project we tried to develop a novel RNAi based technique for silencing the oxidative metabolic pathway of Bemisia tabaci. We tried two approaches: a) oral delivery through artificial diet by in vitro synthesis of dsRNA for the proteins CYP6CM1 and CPR and b) production of transgenic plants Nicotiana tabacum that express dsRNA for CPR protein.
