Abstract The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have an important role in tropospheric chemistry. The exact magnitude of these emissions is not yet known, and the calculation methodology is characterized by significant sources of uncertainty. The present work aims to recalculate the amount of the biogenic emissions VOC (BVOC) using an open-source model. The purpose of this thesis is to simulate BVOC emissions into a global scale using the model MEGAN v2.04, coupled with the global chemistry and transport model TM5. The trace amounts of biogenic volatile organic compounds along with their main anthropogenic pollutants and nitrogen oxides lead to a rich chemistry of the troposphere resulting in the increase of the tropospheric ozone and the particulate matter, as well as climate change due to global warming. The simulations were performed for a 2006 winter and summer month combining meteorological data of the surface temperature and the solar radiation. The compounds studied were those for which the research center NCAR (National Center for Atmospheric Research) provided us with emission factors on a global scale as well as vegetation types and consist of isoprene, methanol, the methylvutenol (MBO), nitric nitrogen and terpenes - monoterpenes such as a-pinene and b-pinene, myrcene, limonene, sabinene, ocimene and 3-carene
