Abstract	The rapid development of information technology in the last years, and especially of the Internet, has brought about significant changes at the services of communication and collaboration. An area where communication plays a leading role is the meetings and conference industry. Technology is called upon to serve this role, however, through a study of the relevant literature and the market, the realization is that its use has not been focused on the communication between participants, but rather on the service of the organizers and financial management. This thesis presents the design and development of a prototype web-based application that aims to bridge this gap by supporting the participants in conferences or other such meetings. This is achieved through offering channels of communication and coordination, by combining features from two groups of software: Groupware calendar systems and event management systems, which are examined and compared with the developed application. The main services offered to the conference participants are the ability to create a personal schedule by choosing events from the conference programme, and the ability to access the personal schedule of friends and colleagues. The application also provides reminders, notifications, the ability to exchange messages and other organiser features. This thesis also presents a preliminary evaluation based on heuristic methods, while a plan for full user-testing evaluation is additionally provided. Finally, future additions and extensions of the application are extensively discussed.
