Abstract	On the present thesis, a comparative study among bacteria that affect aquaculture in Greece and Europe has been conducted, using zebrafish (Danio rerio) as the host. In order to do so, zebrafish of Malaysian origin had been bought and then transferred at the UoC facilities in tanks of 250L total volume at constant temperature (20°C) and controlled photoperiod. As a result, we proceeded on choosing bacteria and their corresponsive strains based on their availability and virulence they show at the aquaculture level. The specific bacteria were identified and collected from various aquacultures in Greece and Europe in general in the past few years by the microbiology laboratory of HCMR. First step was the selection of virulence methods that would be used. Using literature, methods like immersion, dermal abrasion prior to immersion and intraperitoneal injection were selected for testing. As a result we proceeded in evaluating bacteria virulence, using zebrafish as the host through the methods of immersion and intraperitoneal injection. By the end of this first series of experiments we proceeded on studying factors that seem to be affecting virulence, such as temperature, salinity and stress.
