Abstract

PURPOSE To identify the needs and expectations of Personal Doctors in the context of PHC and PH services reform. The investigation of patient satisfaction from the PHC services they received. The description of the current Personal Doctors network. METHODS This is a cross sectional study which was organized in December 2022 and January 2023. The study population was derived from the Personal Doctors registered with the 1st and 2nd Health Regions and were selected randomly. Upon consent, the Job Satisfaction Survey questionnaire (validated in Greek) was sent electronically. PHC service users were also asked to participate with the Europep questionnaire (validated in Greek). Appropriate statistical analysis was performed with the statistical package IBM SPSS standard v29, with statistical significance a=0.05. RESULTS No significant correlation was found with the socioeconomic factors of the study. However, the trends observed were reported and it was found that the doctors who participated were all dissatisfied mostly with the wages, benefits and communication within the organization. Nevertheless, they seemed to enjoy the nature of their work and their expectations of the PHC and PH reform were high. The citizens seemed satisfied with the PHC services they received. The current Personal Doctors network needs expansion in order for universal health coverage to be achieved. CONCLUSIONS the small number of participants was a major limitation. The results, despite the study limitations, seem to agree with the literature, and this paper shows the need for PHC and PH services reform.
