Abstract	The purpose of this thesis is to present the evolution of the fiscal deficit and public debt of the Greek Economy for the period 1980- 2010. Primarily it investigates the dynamic characteristics of the deficits of the Greek Economy and analyzes the reasons behind this increase. Over and above it presents the main causes which have led to the economic crisis of 2008 and its sequences. Finally, it describes the measures obtained by the Greek government under the loan program from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund, as well as the possibilities of bankruptcy in Greece or the debt restructuring.
