Abstract Colorectal cancer is the third most frequent malignancy in males and females. The average age of the population has been significantly increased over the last years and even more people are affected by colorectal cancer. In recent medicine there is a continuous effort to improve the quality of the services, for the benefit of the patient. It has been observed in many countries an initial effort to register the manner that the patients with colorectal cancer are treated, aiming to improve the quality of the services. Thereafter under the guidance of the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO) a common registration and evaluation of the patients has been established. The European Cancer Organisation suggested a specific way of organization and function of highly expertise medical centers for colorectal cancer treatment. Each medical center must follow the Essential Requirements for Quality Cancer Care (ERQCC) that are prescribed. In Greece there is not established a nationwide register of cancer patients. The aim of the master thesis is to evaluate the last hundred patients with colorectal cancer that have been treated in the department of Surgical Oncology of the University General Hospital of Heraklion. It has been evaluated the surgical treatment of the patients and the systematic therapy applied and mostly the compliance to the international guidelines on the treatment of colorectal cancer. Concerning the surgical treatment we observed high rates of R0 resections and oncological accepted lymphadenectomy, with 97% and 87% respectively. The wide surgical margins that are required has been observed in 73%. The major deficiencies have been reported at the length of terminal ileum resected in right colectomies and the distal part of the sigmoidectomies. All the patients have been discussed by the multidisciplinary team postoperatively (100%) and the adjuvant therapy applied was according to the international guidelines of colorectal cancer treatment. In contrast only 15 patients have been discussed by the multidisciplinary team preoperatively. There is a margin of improvement in the wide resection margins and in the preoperative discussion of the patients by the multidisciplinary team.
