Abstract

The present thesis investigates the type and range of the contacts that Crete sustained with the northern African shore, more specifically, with Egypt and Libya, throughout the Bronze Age, targeting a deeper search of the more “direct” connections between the two regions. Within this context not only the commercial communications are being researched but also the transferring of people, the dissemination and exchange of political, artistic and religious ideas. Furthermore, the role and affiliation of the region west of Delta, modern Libya, in the intercultural network of Late Bronze Age in Eastern Mediterranean is discussed. Scarce information is known for Libyan archaeology during Bronze Age, a fact that renders the region seemingly indifferent, however, in this thesis, its significance is searched through the relevant bibliographical research.
