Abstract	The purpose of this dissertation is to present the problem of the Greek public debt, to look at the history of its magnitude and changes, the various interpretations that exist in relation to them and finally present the question of the sustainability conditions of the public debt. Specifically, in the first chapter of the work the basic concepts of public debt are defined, showing the different theoretical views on debt and the creation causes. The second chapter presents issues concerning the relationship between government borrowing and economic activity and issues of debt management. Then, the third chapter analyzes concepts such as debt restructuring and default and the basic components of the discussion around them. The fourth chapter describes the evolution of Greek public debt from the 1930s onwards, in relation to the borrowing policy of the Greek government. Then the fifth chapter will refer to the impact of the agreement to finance the Greek government (coded as Memorandum) while the sixth chapter we will examine the debate about the viability of the Greek public debt. Finally, expressing the main conclusions reached by the thesis.
