Abstract

Background: User satisfaction surveys are used as a key factor in determining quality of care services. Aim: The aim of this study is to measure satisfaction among the elderly who receive social care services at home at the municipality of Heraklion. Method: 121 persons were randomly selected and 74 of them answeredat the end. The questionnaire used was the PSSRU Εxtended User Experience Survey for older people 2005-06 translated. Results: 77% (N=57) of the participants seem to be extremely satisfied with the home care services. Suitable times of visiting and notyfying when something chages in their routine of care has positive relation with overall satisfaction (p=0,003 and p<0,001).The satisfaction with the carer’s behaviour relates positively with overrall satisfaction (p=0,009). Requesting changes in care (p=0,006) and more visits (p=0,011) relates negatively with satisfaction. Those who had difficulties with some of their activities of daily living (transfers p= 0,026, cooking p=0,013, bathing p=0,046) and also those who were receiving care without paying (p=0,020) seem to be less satisfied. Conclusion: The opinion of the social care service users is important to be taken into account despite the methodological problems connected with the aging process and the tendency of the elderly to report high levels of satisfaction.
