Abstract Introduction: The international literature has several indications that cancer is a frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in the population. Dental problems appear in a large percentage of cancer patients mainly as side effects from the treatments of the disease or because of the cancer itself when we talk about head and neck cancer Aim: The present study attempted to identify the main and most frequent dental problems that occur in cancer patients and their treatment. Methodology: This study joined the project of the population-based Cancer Registration Center in Crete (CRC) and followed the design of a pooled data analysis study within the open population cohort of the CRC. For the needs of the research on the dental problems that oncology patients show, the study population was considered to be all the permanent residents of Crete. From 1992 to 2022, 112,231 cases of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of cancer have been recorded in the C.K.K. A confirmed diagnosis is considered the existence of a valid histological diagnosis in the patient's file. For the needs of the research, these incidents were included. This group constituted the sample of the study (n=112,231). For the total of 112,231 cases included in the study, the quality indicators were as follows: timeliness=99.2%, completeness=98.5%, reliability=98.1%, continuity=97.9%. The epidemiological ones that were calculated are the age-standardized incidence and mortality rates (Age-standardized Incidence & Mortality Rates, ASIR & ASMR respectively), the weighted proportions or ratios or mortality quotient (Standardized Mortality Ratios- SMRs), as well as the difference (%) between indicators to be compared. The weighted mortality rates were calculated by the method of direct standardization, with a standard European population of 2005 (selected as the average census year for the period 1992-2018). First, a check was made on the distribution of the data through the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and chi-square test, where we saw that most variables did not follow a normal distribution (Pvalue<0.05). Thus, z score and Mann-Whitney tests were applied for the comparisons between indices and percentages. Descriptive statistics were also emphasized because of the research questions asked. Analysis was performed in STATA statistical software, and all tests were two-sided at a significance level of α=0.05. In this master's thesis, a data mining study (pooled study) is going to be carried out from the database maintained by the Cancer Registration Center of Crete (CRC). From this base, data will be used for patients who experienced one or more dental problems. The C.K.K is a member of the International Association of Cancer Registries (IAR) and the European Network of Cancer Registries (European Network of Cancer Registries). Its goal is the systematic and comprehensive recording of cases and deaths from cancer on the island in order to propose valid methods concerning prevention as well as management. It was founded in 1992 in Crete and includes all prefectures of Crete. In recent years the infrastructure and operation of the C.K.K has been upgraded and a new digital cancer monitoring and recording system (CMS) has been introduced. The latter is suitable for the entry and management of large volumes of data according to international disease coding standards (ICD10) as well as for the protection of personal data. For the study, data will be collected which will be used to conduct the morbidity and mortality indicators. These rules and standards will also be adopted by this thesis.
