Abstract In recent years, interest has been exacerbated in the synthesis of light-absorbing compounds as well as supramolecular structures that mimic the photosynthetic process. Such compounds are porphyrin complexes or supramolecular systems, which are composed of porphyrin complexes together with an energy or electron donor and an energy or electon accector. More specifically, the present work is divided into three parts. The first part concerns "Light-emitting electrochemical cells or LECs", the second part refers to "Energy and electron transport systems" and the third part refers to "Self-assembling ". In the first part, three zinc porphyrin complexes, with large aliphatic chains as substitutes were synthesized and charachterized. These three compounds were synthesized in order to use them in LEC applications. The most promising results were observed in the complex with the aliphatic chains, consist of two carbon atoms. In the second part, αluminum tetraphenyl porphyrin, two BODIPY chromophores and two fullerene derivatives, were synthesized. Finally, the two BODIPY chromophores and fullerene derivatives were then axially linked to aluminum, since aluminum can form five- and six-coordinated complexes, leading to two supramolecular structures. These supramolecular structures were fully characterized and their energy and electron transfer processes were also examined. Better performance occurred in the case of the supramolecular structure of BDP-COO-AlTPP.C60-PPV-pyr. In the third part, aluminum tetraphenyl porphyrin was synthesized. In this compound diphenylalanine amino acid was introduced as an axial substituent on the aluminum metal center. The purpose of this synthesis was to study the particular complex in various solvent systems to check if it forms self-assembled structures.
