Abstract Socioscientific issues in science education have a great value. Aims of science education such as scientific literacy and argumentation, could be accomplished by tackling these issues. Argumentation based on scientific evidence is one of the major purposes of scientific literacy. A framework for dealing with socioscientific issues is proposed by Responsible Research and Innovation, which includes 6 dimensions and offers a holistic way of viewing and dealing with these issues. In order for the future teachers to be able to use socioscientific issues in their teaching practices, they need to be accustomed with these issues first. There is a need to understand the way they consider dealing with these issues. Even though communicating and debating such issues is hard, however through that there is access to the way they produce arguments and the way these abilities could be enhanced. Through exhibits, there is an environment which strengthens the way individuals engage with the issue. The purpose of this study is to investigate the way future teachers argue on socioscientific issues framed by the Responsible Research and Innovation framework through exhibits. The sample of this study were 16 future teachers, in their 3rd and 4rth year of their studies. The artefacts that were used for the aims of this study were constructed from primary school students aiming to engage the public in issues that are important for society. The results of this study are indicating that there is a connection between scientific content and students’ informal reasoning, as well as the arguments they express.
