Abstract The effective integration of Information and Communication Technology in education is a main, yet unfulfilled goal in science education. The use of contemporary ICT tools, like microcomputers, that pre-service teachers make, is a research field to be further investigated. The framework of their training is a defining parameter, so that ICT may be integrated successfully in science education and so that their usefulness may be maximized. Collaboration has far been stressed as an assisting factor in promoting and supporting educational reform. The Community of Learners model can potentially provide the collaborative environment through its dialogical and reflexive nature, so that the above objectives to be reached. In the present study, the use of Microcomputer-Based Laboratories (MBL) that pre-service primary school teachers make is been investigated. The effect of the supporting framework of Community of Learners in their training and also to the process of designing teaching material is being studied too. Exploring the network of interactions between teachers and the discussion in the Community of Learners’ meetings is expected to provide us with information about the use of MBL that teachers make.
