Abstract In the present Thesis, we studied the reduction of quinolines to 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines by hydrosilanes, catalyzed by gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) supported on TiO2, as well as, the mechanism of this process. We found that Au/TiO2 (1 mol%) catalyzes the reduction of quinolines to 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines, using as hydrogen source hydrosilanes, preferably dimethylphenylsilane (PhMe2SiH), and ethanol as proton source, leading to the products in moderate to excellent yields (48-100%). Isotopic studies revealed that the reduction stoichiometry requires two hydrides (from hydrosilane) and two protons (from ethanol or H22O).
